1) Jimmy Bower, on the road with Debris Inc.
Fuck Yeah, Dave Chandler, Ron Holzner from Trouble.
2) How did you hook that up.
I've been friends with Dave for a long time, I've known Ron for probably Ten Years now and Ron Called me up, and Debris has been around for a little while now, gone through a slew of drummers, and he asked me If I wanted to do two weeks with them and I was like yeah man. I had just finish the SuperJoint tour, and I came up to Chicago, learned all the songs in two days, and we left for tour with Orange Goblin and all through the south with Dixie witch.
3) When Did you start playing drums
When I was REAL young, third grade, I started playing on the snare drum, but I never stuck with it, I stuck with it till the fifth grade, and then it started getting weird, motherfuckers were like "datdatadatat" and I knew I wanted to play a drum kit. I was twelve when I got a drum kit, taught myself what I could. Im real simple as a drummer, I think I suck, but thats just me.
4) When did you pick up a guitar
When I was eighteen, I started playing guitar.
5) What made you pick up the guitar at eighteen.
Melvins. Melvins, second tattoo I ever got, theyr' my favorite band in the world man, theyr' killar.
6) How did you you hook up with Mike Williams and Eyehategod.
Man its weird, Mike Williams is actually not the original singer, the original singer is actually the guy who came up with the name for the band, Chris Hilliard, and he is now a Christian and has been bugging me to change the name of the band but. I've known Mike Williams forever and we finally got him in Eyehategod , and got that together, we put some tapes out and we didn't think anyone would take us seriously because it was so far fetched back then. But people started taking it serious.
7) What was that like 92?
That was 91, we put out "in the name of suffering" but Eyehategod started in 88' or 89', but Mike wasn't around back then.
8 ) But you were the original guitarist.
I am the only original member of Eyehategod, I started the band...Me and the christian guy.
9) What was the concept when you started, the feedback ridden sludge.
It was me, Joey Lacaze, Brian Patton and whoever on Bass, and the concept was, play as slow as you can. I was just learning how to play the guitar on half that stuff. Thats how all that came to be.
10) So when did Down come to fruition.
91' we did a three song demo, and Phil was in Pantera, and they were getting big at that time, and he just circulated the demo. He would put it on and not tell anyone, people would be like, whos that band man? Phils' like I donnu dude, I just found it. Playin jokes, and finally we wer'e like, thats us. Down is just about hangin' out with your best friends and havin' a good time, thats all Down is. Thats all Eyehategod is, Thats what Clearlight was, Crowbar, Corrosion, Debris, all those bands its all about good friends and the scene where metal can unite and show the world whats true you know.
11) Final words.
Support your local scene man. What we need is more towns that are proud of their club and bands. You can tell when you pull into a town thats like that. Little Rock is like that, Dallas, New York is like that, New Orleans, Chicago. Its cool to see people unite.
