Celtic Frost - SUNNO))) Goatwhore - at the House Of Blues Sunset, Oct 2006 |
Bass player Nathan Bergeron kept the low thunder flowing, while drummer Patrick Bruders beat his drums into oblivion. It kinda sucks that Goatwhore had to be reduced to opening band (but for tonight's even, I think everyone in attendance would not complain if we were in their position)... The crowd was kind of dead for Goatwhore, maybe they were saving the energy for the mighty Frost, or weren't drunk enough, but still Goatwhore never let us down, playing songs from all 3 releases, and ending with (I think) the title track from their last release "A Haunting Curse". Princess Fetus is not much of a metal fan, she has no choice when I am around....but by the end of Goatwhore's set, she was a fan. |
| Damn...parking for the House Of Blues Sunset can be expensive, $20.00 fucking dollars for parking, total bullshit, I should have the car washed and vacuumed for that price. So after playing "Human Frogger" on Sunset Blvd, Princess Fetus and I make our way into the line of what can only be described as "80's retro metal" - complete with uniforms (i.e. Levi's denim jeans and matching jacket with the sleeves cut off, and either covered with patches or hand drawn band logos, those white high top sneakers, and "Fozzy Bear" like hair-do's, I felt like I was in Jr High again...and it felt oh so fucking good)... We get inside just in time to see Goatwhore hit the stage.. Southern Fried Black metal at it's finest. After 2 horrendous car accidents, Louis Benjamin Falgoust II seems to dominate the stage like his legs had never crushed, Ben has a great gutteral scream, and loves to pay homage to the metal of yesteryear with the classic "OOUUGH", you can't go wrong with that kinda love. Git-fiddle player Sammy Duet was perched on the stage like a stone demon, never missing a beat with that Neal Moser Bastard V....That kat plays riffs that are so simple and catchy, coupled with the disharmic melody that makes yer skin crawl and ache. ---> |

I went to the bar to start consuming a double shot of Crown Royal, if SUNNO))) can’t perform sober, than I can't watch em sober....in fact I was granted a second double shot from my Brother In Doom PHILCO))).... We shuffled back to the floor in front of the stage so we could soak in the full effect of the storm of drones that was coming. The house lights go down, the smoke machine fills the air like Saddam Hussein lighting the oil fields on fire back in 1991, I prepared to have my body aurally manipulated for the next 45 minutes. After 5 minutes of the crushing drone of fuzz and feedback by our monolithic Doom Slayers, the Princess Fetus could not handle the vibrations....to bad for her... While she left, I stood my ground while the whiskey swilling grin got bigger and bigger as SUNNO))) continues their snail paced slaughter. I think half the crowd there that night didn’t know what to expect, but judging by the response when they finally turned the amps off, I think they won the crowd over....or, the audience was happy that they were finally leaving the stage. I mean, what the fuck, this is the heaviest band on earth, and you fucking pussy's out there can’t cope with a band that dares to perk up those brain cells you have killed with all that Mary Jane, a band that is so thoughtful, that they give everyone in attendance a full body massage while they are playing, yea, I thought you might come around. And might I mention, that their new album "Altar" - a collaboration with Japan's "Boris" is by far the best release they have bestowed upon us, thanks katz. |
| By this time, the Crown Royal had bitten me like a viper, Celtic Frost was about to pummel us into 80's thrash obscurity, they opened with "Procreation Of The Wicked"...which was played ssslllooowwweeerrr than when they first recorded it on Morbid Tales, and it grinded our skulls into a fine powdery dust. The mighty Frost busted out all the hits, Dethroned Emperor, Into the Crypts of Rays, Circle of the Tyrants etc, and rounded out by several of the new songs from their recently released album Monotheist. It was great to see allot of friends in the crowd I haven’t seen in while, shows that feature bands like Celtic Frost bring out metal heads who seem to have been in hibernation since 1985. | ![]() |

I ran into Sammy Duet during the Frost set, he was busy keeping the bar in business, I begged him for a guitar pick, but as he started telling me to hang out for a while to hook me up, he was assaulted by the verbal shenanigans from a rather robust female, haha, no worries, I'll get a pick from the devils disciple next time they come through town. Celtic Frost Played for an eternity, and all in attendance were stoked, it's not often you get to witness a band that defined a generation of metal, and then continues to open up the vein of thrash and kick it into overdrive like they did so many years ago.
