1. So TEN years of FUCKING RWAKE. Tell us a bit about
the ride? Did you ever think you guys would be
together this long?
Yeah, back then I totally thought we would still be together after 10 years. I know that my thinking that has nothing to do with us actually being together this long though. That's funny. We have turned out to be a much better band than I had forseen. I have had the chance to jam with many other good musicians through the past years of this band trying to find it's place, and I'm pleased with the way it's turned out thus far. I wish I could hear what we would sound like in 2012. Hopfully we'll still be rocking.
2. How goes the writting of the new matterial?
The main song writing comes personally, usually at ones home. Jeff writes alot of stuff, and he'll bring it to practice and Kiffin and Gravy will add or tell him to do this or that instead. Gravy will also bring in whole songs written. Reid get's his riffs after long hours of intence jamming. Kiffin is a riff miester who is constantly jamming. He's hardly got time to jack off, because there's a guitar in his hands at all time. Due to all of this the new album is finished written and ready to be recorded 100% It's very very DARK material. A shadow of gloom and lots of other creeped out phenomenon.
3. You were recently in a terrible accident in which a
little Rock city bus plowed into your car. Your back
was pretty messed up, and you were in allot of pain at
emissions. What is the current status on your
vertibrate?
Very good. It's not the back I once had, but I'm not in need of pain pills which is good. I'm not hurting in any way either. I know what my limitations are and that's pretty much it. Those faults don't come in the way of the band(except for loading gear), so everything should be fine.
4. Do you think this will affect your abillity to
tour?
I know you've seen Goatwhore and Soilent green. Ben went through much much more than I ever did. Not to mention Phil Anselmo who had "the mother of all back surgeries". I had what Phil had, but his was like x 7 compared to mine. He had way heavy drugs, and liked those drugs, so that helps. I don't like pain bills and won't mix them with any other drugs, and the day you watched us play I was on voodoo, so I was in pain, but I was also feelling fucked off in whole other state. It was wonderful.
5. Talk to us about Son of Jorel. How did that start?
Where will it go?
Corey just gave me this track(Bloodlord) and i put my track on it back home. After that they would send me other stuff they had worked on. One track being Doomsday Masacre. Months later we got together over the weekend in Ohio, and recorded two songs Cosmic Blue Sunshine, and Rebellion. It's fun as fuck to have a band where we just write and record songs then release some records. No worries. I love recording shit with those dudes, and can't wait to put out some more records with them. Hopfully some day we can jam live and play a show. Ha Ha.
6. Are you currently in any other musical projects?
There is a track on the upcoming King Travolta album of collaborations with me and Scott Angelacus share a track."Kill Fuck Metal". The title track. Locally I might be sitting with a few friend of mines band called King Killer(ha ha 2 king bands). I've also talked about jamming with another friends band locally. The Power Bastard on myspace are his demos instrumental. They are incredible. He just put the band together with 3 guitarists. Hell yeah. Usually I don't like to be in other bands locally, cause there is small number of good local metal bands for rwake to play with. But I also can't refuse to jam with old friends for fun.
7. Your lyrics have always been from the edge of
space. As your writting the new Rwake material, what
sort of things are inspirring your newest versus?
More grounded material. Mainly life and death. The inner woods. Elements. Saddness. Being happy. Time and timelessness. Reincarnation. All forms of the flowing of water. Religious belief. Also lots of my lyrics come from my dreams. My dreams are strong as hell and send heavy messages
8. Have you noticed a change in the way Rwake is
writting songs?
Well, right now it's not as cozy to write cause we have to load in and out cause we're jamming at Downtown Music, but I like it when the writers bring in whole pieces of songs.
9. Does the band have an architype for itself, or is
it just like "anything goes"?
Definitly not anything goes. If anything lots of stuff does'nt go. Sometimes we can hate something and well totally rewrite it or just cut it. Everybody is opinionated about each others parts. I like it. It's better to say something if you really care about it. That does'nt mean everyone gets their way when the speak their mind, but that doesn't mean we don't make sure everyone else knows about it first.
10. What sort of legacy do you hope to create for the
next ten years?
Legacy. That has a big meanning. I guess what it's like now + 10 years. Shit, I hope we are just alive and well in 10 years.
