The East Los Warehouse
07-15-06

Damn, if I didn't sit in traffic....and maybe I didn't, but I was traveling with 2 females - listening to gossip and "boy trouble"...and even being asked to lie...FOR A GIRL.... Well, this gave me the upper hand, so I turned on the "asshole mode"...and started my evening of consuming bad-for-stuff.    The show was supposed to start at 6:00....but was running late, local katz were building a stage, how thoughtful. I was severely crashing off some iced coffee thing, So I retired back to the car to consume some Heineken and bowl after bowl of wacky tobacky....which didn't wake me up at all....oh well sucks to be me..for now...that is until  heard some grinding noise coming from the Ware House... I walked in and was greeted by Dibuk, a 4 piece hardcore act in the vein of Lack of Interest with some hint of death metal. I've been seeing their name in the L.A. underground on flyers allot recently, so I had to check them out. Dibuk's singer/screamer was great on the mic, he manipulated his voice into an array of screams, growls, "soccer gooooooaaaaaaaallllllssss", I was busting up the whole time, I was completely entertained, Dibuk scored big time with me. The next hour or is pretty fuzzy for me, wandering around the warehouse district, looking for a place to piss, dodging the vomited remains from some young crusty who vomited up the meal he or she ate 2 weeks ago...YUMMY! I know I missed Maggot Colony from Visalia CA. - who I know are amazing, I've been on contact with them for years, and have a few of their releases, but still I missed em, sorry katz. Forced March was also on the bill, but by this time, my head was a fucking hoola-hoop, I couldn't focus - so I gotta apologize to the Hispanic guys who were keeping a low profile at the ware house down the street, I may have pissed on one of their mangy dogs that keep those guys company late at night...ahh, who the fuck know, or cares. know, or cares.
Up next was Progeria...or at least, that's who I saw playing next... This bands rocks, total grinding madness, featuring members of LA's own Warhorse, and Ruido. I believe it was Oscar's (singer, or more like lead burper) birthday, so he was in a grand ole mood, stomping through the crowd  trying to get a circle pit going, in which he was successful. The cool thing about this band is that they play about 4 songs back to back with nothing more than a few drum stick clicks in bewteen to get em going, it looks professional, and keeps the vibe going.
At this point the rest of the night got much better, getting all that filthy air and sweat on me and in me was exactly what I needed, I started to wake up,  so that meant more beer, and more weed..WOOOHOOOO!!! But this has caused me to get the order of the bands...out of order. So forgive me, this is how I remember it

Voetsek....fucking awesome punk/hardcore, they just had a great time on stage, they sounded great, and were very appreciative of the crowd who lapped up every bit of their no holds barred thrash attack. As they tried to leave the stage, the crowd demanded that they do an encore, to which Voetsek obliged us with a cover of Motley Crue's  "Live Wire" and Suicidal Tendencies "I Want More"....which caused several fans to jump on stage and attempt to get on the mic....everyone wants to be an MC nowadays.
I tried to talk to their singer after their set, as I had done some 3rd party 7" artwork for them, and wanted to say hi and talk a bit, but that shit didn’t work out, it probably seemed like I was more of a fucked up fan boy who needed a nearby car to hold his wasted ass up.

Skarp.... HOLY SHIT, BLACK OUT GRIND from the North West, or Seattle for those twits out there. I've know these guys for a few years, as WATCH ME BURN played with Skarp on tour a few years ago, it was good to see Joe - their drummer again,  he also plays in an amazing Gore-Grind band called Splatterhouse...check em out.  Anyway, Skarp stormed the stage raising the temperature level in the warehouse up a few more degrees, blasting through many of the tunes on their Alternative Tentacle release, and then just as quickly as they hit the stage, they were gone.
Noisear - It was great to see their front man Alex again, I hadn't seen him since the L.A. Metal fest (held in San Bernardino.....no shit) a few years ago, when he was fronting Laughing Dog,  he's a little trimmer and has a new shag. Noisear hails from  New Mexico, and just fuck shit up like no one can. Lightning fast drums, razor sharp guitar riffing, monster bass rumbles and the bark bark from Alex are a great combination.  If you haven't picked up any of their releases, do yourself a favor.... Especially the split 7" with Regurgitate. Actually, I thought they were touring with a special edition of that record (as I had designed the special edition cover for) but I didn't see em, they must have sold out earlier in the tour.

Alright, the headliners were up, Capitalist Casualties, rabid thrash violence from the Bay Area, the perfect sound track for a skate session or doing friendly circular bloodshed.  Haroldo from Catheter was sitting in on drums this time around, it was good to see him too, fuck, this night seemed like fucking Grind School Reunion.
They hit the stage and immediately so did half of the crowd,  after 20 years of thrash, you would think they would be a little slower in their old age..BUT NOOOOO!...they just keep getting better, sicker, faster and stronger. Haroldo's drums fell into his lap several times, the show had to stop so they could fix everything. At this point, I saw some kat scale the wall, and leap into the crowd, so I looked up and saw that the roof rafter were empty, and more than likely had a great view of the stage, and the crowd below, so I followed the crowd surfer, and hoisted myself up into the rafters.....soon enough I was joined by another fan who decided to walk around the rafters, and then hang out,  it was a great view, but hot as a witches tit while she burns at the stake. The crowd below was sea of black shirts and sweaty limbs. The warehouse was packed with energy and heat - I haven't been to a gig like this in a long time, it seems they are few and far between.. C.C. continued their onslaught for quite a while...long enough for another fan to join me up in the rafter..... And look who it is, Kai from Dudefuckinhellyeah... She's usually the pit monitor,  I guess she decided to take the night off - haha.

As Voetsek was asked to do, Capitalist Casualties did an encore or 2, so I decided it was time to get off my perch, and join the ocean of  filth below me, it felt so fucking good to be punched, kicked, climbed on, and my hair being pulled, all in the name of thrash, I felt like I was 15 again....was 15 again....
